Once again Galway SAC went to St. John's Pt., Donegal, for the May Bank Holiday. As per usual a few arrived on Thursday evening, with most of the group present by Friday afternoon. The visibility on friday evening was stunning, in excess of 50M. This deteriorated slightly through the weekend, and was down to about 25M on Monday. The diving on Friday, was shore based from the steps near the lighthouse. Boats were launched at the beach on Saturday morning, with two dives, at Skuddagh Rk, and Portnagh Rk. In keeping with tradition, dinner was fish and chips at Melly's, Killibegs, after which we retired to McIntyres Pub in Dunkineely. The first dive on Sunday was at the Black Rks, opposite the beach. The dive was very nice, despite the fact that no one found the rock. Second dive was back around the lighthouse area. With the diving out of the way (except for a group who opted for a night dive), it was up to Mary Murrins for dinner and then back to McIntyres. Saturday night is music night in McIntyres and great craic was had by all. Rory Martin then gave an exhibition of pool that would make you wonder about his youthful activities. With boats out of the water Monday's dive was again shore based from the steps. Overall it was a great weekend, with excellent diving. Altogether thirty members made the trip. Accommodation, was a mix of hostel, camping, b&b and rented houses. |
