Killary Harbour
is a fjord between the mweelrea mountains and the twelve pins. The
fjord extends from Leenane to Renvyle. To get there, take the
Letterfrack road from Leenane and after approx 7 miles, turn right
following the signs for the youth hostel. This will bring you to
Rossroe harbour. Inflatable boats may be launched here. (Bigger boats
can be launched nearer to Leenane). The fjord is well sheltered and is
divable in most conditions.

The Dives
|
|
1. The Shore
Dive (Rossroe Pier)
There are two ways of approaching the shore dive. You can walk over the
hill, east of the harbour following the track, and begin the dive at
the little natural harbour about 100 metres east of Rossroe point. The
bottom drops away immediately from the shore, so you can head north to
attain required depth (30m is easily attainable). You can then head
west parallel to the shore, ending at the harbour. There are some nice
reefs at various depths along here. If you don't fancy the walk, you
can start and finish in the harbour.

|
2. The North Shore
Taking a boat to the north shore, approx. 1500m, opens up several
dives. This is the steeper side, and there are many dropoff's to 30M
and deeper. The walls here are home to an abundance of life.

3. Inisbearna
Inisbearna can be dived on the North and Eastern sides. There are steep
drop-offs on the North side, with depths in excess of 40M. The
Eastern side is probably the nicest, with depths around 20-25M, and
home to some large conger eels.

The
Islands
There are several islands just outside the harbour. Doonee and
Inisdegil Mor are easily reachable with nice diving between 20M and
30M. |
