Killybegs 2013

on Mon, 2013-10-28 14:18

Things looked great when we arrived late on Friday night for our weekend away, flat calm in the harbour. It wasn't to last.

By morning the predicted high winds had arrived and sea conditions had gone downhill. We got one dive in on Saturday morning but had to write off the afternoon. Sunday was even worse so the poor old boat and divers never saw the water again for the rest of the weekend.

Galway Bay Swim, July 2013

on Sun, 2013-07-28 13:39

The club provided safety boat cover for the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim this weekend, a 13k open water swim across Galway Bay. We also had a few members taking part in the actual swim. It was a great day and well organized. This is an annual event that provides an opportunity for interested swimmers to swim Galway Bay and in the process raise as much money as possible through fundraising efforts for Cancer Care West - the West of Ireland Cancer Charity. More information about Cancer Care West can be found on their website:

Kilkee, July 2013

on Mon, 2013-07-15 09:20

What a great weekend! Perfect conditions at Kilkee set the scene for some excellent diving and good craic. Two boats, 15 divers and an overnight stay to enjoy the weather and holiday atmosphere.

The highlight for most people was the dive on Muragha Reef where we dropped in right beside the famous "chimney" and some lucky souls even got to end their dive by doing their ascent to 5m up through the chimney and their 3 minute safety stop on the plateau at the top. Now that's an experience.
