Achill Island, July 2009

Emer in full voice in 'The Annexe'

Galway SAC went to Achill Island, Mayo for the weekend Jul 12-13. Most of the group arrived Friday evening. Two boats, An Glassáun and Joe Fada were brought. Accommadation varied, most were in Rich View hostel, while more use b&b.           Boats were launched at Purteen Harbour on Saturday morning,  and the first dive was carried out at The Bills Rocks. This proved to be a great dive and we lucky to get it in as the  weather was forecast to deteriorate. For the second dive we chose Inisgalloon Island, which is close to the harbour and affords some shelter. This was also a great dive.           After some fine food the group relaxed for the night in 'The Minaun' and 'The Annexe'. On Sunday morning the weather forecast proved to be accurate and the prudent decision was taken to cancel the days diving. Overall the weekend was a great success with the highlight being the trip and diving on The Bills.
